South Korea, The Land of Morning Calm
curated by
Jamie
Jamie planned my 6-day spring break trip last year to Goa. Being a beach lover, she selected the perfect destination for my travel plans to India. She provided me with a driver, selected a comfortable and affordable accommodation to my liking (within walking distance from the beach), and planned a nice mix of fun-filled activities and downtime for rest and relaxation. Many thanks to Jamie for making my trip one for the books...

Trip Summary

Annyeonghaseyo, and welcome to the beginning of an incredible journey through South Korea! This itinerary will take you not only through the fun, funky, and fascinating city of Seoul, but also beyond - where you can learn how Korea came to be nicknamed "The Land of Morning Calm." On this unique journey, you will delve into Korea's rich history and traditions, experience Korean culture, marvel at Korea's natural beauty, and have a great time along the way. Get your walking shoes and party pants ready because Korea is calling your name!

Cultural Introduction to Seoul!

You will arrive at Incheon Airport in Seoul where a driver will pick you up to take you to your accommodation. Now, let the adventure begin! Start off your Korean journey with a visit to Seoul’s oldest and most popular palace: Gyeongbokgung. Make sure to see the traditional changing of the guard, explore the beautiful gardens, and admire the intricate architecture - minutes from your hotel. Next, wander through time in Bukchon Hanok Village, located just a short walk from the palace. This beautiful, traditional Korean neighborhood is a must-see. Explore various local shops and enjoy a traditional Korean BBQ dinner or tea in one of the hannoks (traditional homes) at your leisure. Wrap up your first day in Seoul with a visit to a traditional Korean bathhouse, or jjimjilbang. Embrace this cultural staple to end your day feeling truly relaxed and rejuvenated. Leave your inhibitions at the door! (Men and women bathe separately.)

Eat, Drink, and be Merry!

Immerse yourself in an authentic Korean cooking class with a local chef at her home. Visit a local market to purchase fresh ingredients, sample treats, and learn about the sensory experience that is Korean cuisine. Make traditional dishes like ‘Bibimbap’ rice or ‘Sanjeok’ pancakes before sitting down to enjoy a traditional Korean ‘Hanjeongsik’ dinner. Includes lunch and dinner, traditional Korean masks, welcome drink, and introduction to the Korean language. Next, record your own K-pop banger in a professional studio where famous K-pop stars have worked. After the 90-minute recording session, leave with your own audio recording and self-made music video. Work with professional recording engineers and vocal trainers to create your own truly unique souvenir. Spend your evening getting lost in Hongdae for some of Seoul's best shopping and nightlife. Start off with street food outside Hongdae University Metro Stop 9. Enjoy various street performances ranging from live painters to rap battles as you sip a Soju-infused adult “Capri Sun.” Then visit a Korean noraebang for a very Korean karaoke experience.
