Bailey was endlessly flexible and creative in working with our unique and changing needs. We had a multi-generational family vacation with specific requirements and a very constrained geographical location. She found a place that made me a hero with my family - no easy feat!

Trip Summary

On this journey, you will get to know Morocco in a way that fewer people have explored. Step off the beaten path and find yourself on an adventure of a lifetime away from the majority of the crowds. This trip is designed for first-timers to Morocco to get to know the country and its people in a way that isn’t full of “top 10” spots. Instead, discover the lesser known on your own time, with more freedom to explore. You’ll have local guides to introduce you to the real way of life in the desert. And you will walk away feeling like you got to Meet Morocco as its most authentic self.

Arrive at Marrakech International Airport (MAK) before 5 pm. A driver will meet you there and drive you to your hotel. For your first two nights, you'll stay in Marrakesh. Depending on the time of your arrival, there will be additional options for you to consider. But the first activity on this journey is a group cooking class. (Private class available). Meet with a local Moroccan woman who will take you to buy vegetables and other ingredients from small stands in the medina. Then she will take you back to a local home where you will experience cooking a Moroccan meal. (Vegetarian options available). After you’ve cooked your meal, enjoy the company of the group and eat your meal together.

What's included:

  •  Airport transfer
  •  Accommodation
  •  Cooking class (dinner)

Your second day in Marrakesh will be a day full of gaining knowledge.

You’ll first take a walking tour of the medina to find out about its history and hidden secrets. Your tour guide will walk you through the busy streets, and introduce you to a few street foods. After your guided tour, eat a full lunch (or more street food!) and then go to the Ibn Youssef School. This was once the oldest Muslim school in Northern Africa. Now you can visit the restored building to see where the school children lived and learned to worship. Follow up the school visit with the Museum of Photography- an incredibly beautiful and insightful museum full of emotional snapshots of Morocco over the last 150 years. At the end of the day, you’ll go to the Museum of Music to eat a delicious meal on their rooftop terrace before watching a traditional musical performance. Top it off with a glass of Moroccan mint tea.

What's included:

  • Breakfast
  • Walking tour

You’ll start fairly early in the morning (8:30 am). Check out of your hotel, take a taxi to the rental agency, and pick up your rental car.

Once you’re ready, you’ll start the long drive to Aït Benhaddou (approx 5 hours total). There will be plenty of pit stops at beautiful places along the way to keep you from getting tired or bored! Your first stop after just 45 minutes is Anima (André Heller Garden). This garden was designed and built from the ground up by André Heller, an Austrian artist who fell in love with Morocco. It is said to be one of the most beautiful gardens in the world. After you spend time there, you’ll see why! Eat a nice brunch at the cafe before you continue your drive. From Anima, you’re just 3.5 hours from where you’ll sleep at Riad Caravane, a gorgeous guest house inside Aït Benhaddou. Take your time driving through the windy roads. Take in the views of the marbled hills often, and don’t forget to stop at small stands along the way for an espresso and a few dates.

What's included:

  •  Rental car
  •  Anima (André Heller Garden) entrance
