Trip Summary
Imagine yourself walking through the Andean Mountains and feeling Pachamama’s presence (Mother Earth). On one hand, the Salkantay trek will challenge you from long walks and high altitudes, but on the other, it will give you a once-in-a-lifetime experience you will never forget. On this journey you will taste amazing food. Learn about Incan culture. Fall in love with its stunning views. Peru is a magical place I would love to share with you. You will hike, see breathtaking views, recharge your soul, and eat Peru’s best cuisine. Cusco will give you a hard time leaving!
You will arrive at Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport and be welcomed to the city. A driver will take you to your hotel (hotel Hacienda Centro Historico). Depending on your arrival time activities can be suggested!
On this first day, it's important to have some time to acclimate to the altitude, Cusco is 11k feet above sea level, so you may choose to take medicine to avoid some headaches and indisposition. The altitude doesn't hit everyone, so if you are one of the lucky ones, Cusco is a beautiful city to explore. You will get to walk around Plaza de Armas, eat some chica morada ice cream and the best ceviche there is, or the famous Peruvian lomo saltado (there are veggie options for both in town).

After breakfast at the hotel, you will have time to explore museums and walk around Cusco in the morning. For lunch, you will attend an amazing cooking class and try out Peruvian food and learn how to prepare it. Cusco is such a cute place, you'll love to visit some coffee shops, drink some pisco (a Peruvian alcoholic drink), and eat traditional desserts.
This will be a light day to get even more acclimated in order to start your hike early morning tomorrow. Throughout the day you will have an appointment for your hike briefing. They will instruct you on everything you'll need, from snacks, to how to get your bags ready, and more.
Camila, our travel planner, suggests an early night, the hiking tour will pick you up at 4 am the next morning.

At 4 am the van will pick you up to start your 5-day hiking journey! Salkantay is one of the best 25 hikes in the world, it will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The trek will challenge you physically, but mentally it will reward you in indescribable ways.
You will breathe the Andean Mountains' fresh air, see its beauty and feel Pachamama's presence. Aside from breakfast, in which you can ask the hotel to separate you some for the hike, all the food will be included while on the hike. Horses will carry your duffle bag, and you will be in charge of snacks, and daily things you may need with you in a backpack.
